Canada Food Tracker Pilot Project
GS1 Canada is collaborating with the Dietitians of Canada, Health Canada and the foodservice sector to advance the healthy living movement across Canada, through the Canada Food Tracker pilot project.
This pilot will demonstrate the value of providing the public, healthcare workers and the government with access to an online central resource for accurate, up-to-date nutrition information about Canadian foodservice products.
Through the Canada Food Tracker pilot, select Canadian foodservice manufacturers will share nutrition information about their products directly with the Dietitians of Canada, through GS1 Canada’s ECCnet Registry, the most comprehensive and continually validated registry of its kind in Canada. The Dietitians of Canada will then maintain this data in a publicly accessible database.
The Canada Food Tracker pilot project will support:
- Consumer requirements for enhanced reliability of product nutrition information – including currency and accuracy – to support healthy eating
- Commitment by food manufacturers to providing Canadians with healthy food options and related information
- Program development by healthcare workers to encourage and assist with healthy food choices
- Government food supply research related to improving population health and controlling rising healthcare costs
