McKesson Canada Engages GS1 Canada’s ECCnet Registry to Employ Data Synchronization Services

TORONTO, ON, October 16, 2007 - GS1 Canada, Canada’s experts in collaborative commerce and global standards, today announced that McKesson Canada, the leading provider of logistics, as well as information products and services in Canadian healthcare, has selected GS1 Canada’s ECCnet Registry, Canada’s national product registry. McKesson Canada joins a list of other distributors utilizing and benefiting from data synchronization services.

Utilizing ECCnet Registry, McKesson Canada will improve data accuracy and increase speed-to-market for its products across the supply chain. McKesson Canada is among several major Canadian pharmaceutical distributors and retailers, including Loblaw Companies Limited, Sobeys Inc. and Shoppers Drug Mart Corporation that employ data synchronization services through ECCnet Registry.

"GS1 Canada welcomes McKesson Canada for its decision to engage in the ECCnet Registry community for data synchronization services," said N. Arthur Smith, CEO, GS1 Canada. "I am confident that McKesson Canada will see strong and viable results in its supply chain from using ECCnet Registry."

Data synchronization - the process of connecting trading partners throughout the supply chain by offering a single source of business information - through ECCnet Registry, ensures that all trading partners have access to timely, accurate information that supports a wide range of business processes, improving supply chain efficiency. Immediate and measurable benefits are realized in business operations, laying the foundation for all future business-to-business e-commerce initiatives, including Electronic Product Code/Radio Frequency Identification (EPC/RFID).

Using GS1 Canada’s ECCnet Registry, companies register product and location information, which is validated to ensure completeness and compliance with their industry-accepted standards. The cleansed data is then synchronized and made available to trading partners, ensuring that they are exchanging accurate, up-to-date, standards-compliant data. ECCnet Registry supports over 2,500 vendors and more than 40 major retailers and distributors across a diverse base of industry sectors, including grocery, pharmacy, and foodservice.

Data synchronization across the supply chain reduces costs due to information errors, resulting in greater efficiency in key business processes, including:

  • improved purchase orders and invoicing
  • lower logistics and transportation costs
  • reduced out-of-stocks and misshipments
  • elimination of on-shelf merchandising issues due to incorrect product specifications
  • greater speed-to-market for new product information.
