CareNET Healthcare Standards Council

Led by CareNET Services Inc. (CareNET) and GS1 Canada, the CareNET Healthcare Standards Council provides a forum for industry leaders to contribute their business and healthcare operations expertise and commitment to provide strategic direction to lead the Canadian medical/surgical supply chain to adopt leading practices that align with integrated global standards and enhance patient safety and supply chain efficiency.

The CareNET Healthcare Standards Council's mission is to identify, prioritize and implement Canadian medical/surgical supply chain standards in the healthcare sector, while ensuring alignment with North American and global standards.

This collaborative committee will develop an industry roadmap and compliance mechanisms, as well as provide direction to all CareNET technical work groups. In addition, the CareNET Healthcare Standards Council will:

  • Explore, define and prioritize strategic business and technology needs specific to the Canadian healthcare sector
  • Determine how current and/or emerging healthcare regulations impact Canadian healthcare requirements 
  • Provide direction to Healthcare Technical Standards Work Group related to prioritization of business and technology needs 
  • Advocate for the implementation of supply chain leading practices aligned with global standards in the healthcare sector.

Healthcare Technical Standards Work Group

As part of its strategic alliance with CareNET Services Inc. (CareNET), GS1 Canada has established the Healthcare Technical Standards Work Group to undertake technical standards development and maintenance for electronic commerce. The Healthcare Technical Standards Work Group further develops and maintains specific Canadian healthcare implementation guidelines relating to the GS1 Canada Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) standards for national requirements, ensuring alignment with North American standards.

This work group creates a forum for subject matter experts whose business and technical expertise will advance the development, maintenance and publishing of Canadian healthcare technical implementation guidelines pertaining to the procurement of such healthcare products as medical/surgical items, pharmaceuticals, foodservice products and office supplies, among others.
