Global Standards: Enabling patient safety and an efficient healthcare supply chain

Carenet is GS1 Canada’s healthcare sector strategy to standardize the healthcare supply chain. Through its amalgamation with GS1 Canada, Carenet represents over 450 Canadian healthcare providers and 95 leading suppliers.

Carenet’s goal is to improve patient safety, cost efficiency and staff productivity – and ultimately ensure Canada’s healthcare trading partners are able to fully operate in an increasingly e-driven global supply chain.

Carenet supports the adoption of a common system of global supply chain standards in healthcare institutions. This enbales increased efficiencies and accuracy – and thus safety – in the healthcare supply chain by:

  • facilitating a reduction in medication errors
  • further reducing instances of counterfeit products in the global supply chain
  • enabling efficient and effective traceability for product recalls and decreasing production and supply chain costs.
