Learn How Canadian Healthcare Product Registry Will Improve Patient Safety, Reduce Health System Costs at 2011 HSCN Conference

Toronto, ON, April 20, 2011 - The Canadian healthcare sector has collaborated to create the Canadian Healthcare Product Registry (CHPR): the most comprehensive registry of healthcare product data of its kind in Canada.  Managed by global supply chain standards body GS1 Canada, the CHPR will launch this Fall.  Based on global GS1 standards, and built according to GS1 Canada’s proven model for driving data accuracy, the CHPR will improve patient safety and save money across the Canadian healthcare system.

GS1 Canada’s Paul Faguy, Vice President of Healthcare, will be speaking on May 9, 2011, at the 4th Annual National Healthcare Supply Chain Conference, hosted by the Healthcare Supply Chain Network (HSCN) about the launch strategy for this registry and how organizations can get involved.

Date: Monday, May 9, 2011
Place:

Doubletree Hotel Toronto Airport 655 Dixon Road Toronto, Ontario

The CHPR will be the single point of access between healthcare trading partners for exchanging vital product data used in every-day operations.  This central registry will respond to a key pain point within the healthcare system, as identified by GS1 Canada Carenet Healthcare Sector Board members: inaccurate product data.

According to the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) and the Canadian Patient Safety Institute (CPSI), data integrity is a key factor in driving patient safety.  For this reason, leading healthcare representatives – from healthcare providers, to suppliers, distributors, Government Purchasing Organizations (GPOs), and others – have been working with GS1 Canada on the development of this single national registry for healthcare product data.
