Supply Chain Initiatives

GS1 Canada leads the following initiatives to implement and design new standards for improving the Canadian supply chain:

Efficient Consumer Response (ECR) ECR is an industry cost-reduction initiative. Companies throughout the grocery industry are working together to find ways to eliminate inefficient practices that are not value-added to the consumer.

Efficient Foodservice Response (EFR) EFR is an initiative developed by the foodservice sector that is designed to take time and cost out of the system. When all members are involved, the initiative ensures timely, accurate and paperless communication between trading partners, as well as constant product flow that keeps pace with demand. The result is reduced supply chain costs and increased value to the consumer.

Efficient Consumer Response for the Pharmacy Supply Chain (ECRx) ECRx is an industry initiative to reduce or eliminate unnecessary costs and activities throughout the pharmacy supply chain. Through ECRx, pharmacy retailers, wholesalers and supplies are working together to find ways to eliminate inefficient operating practices that do not add benefit to the consumer. ECRx focuses on enablers for major pharmacy categories: prescription drugs, non-prescription drugs and cosmetics.

Efficient Healthcare Consumer Response (EHCR) EHCR is a Canadian initiative that consists of hospitals, manufacturers and group buying organizations, to promote an efficient supply chain in the healthcare industry through the use of e-commerce enabling technologies such as EDI and bar coding.
