User Code of Conduct

  1. Introduction

This is the User Code of Conduct ("Code") for GS1 Canada (“GS1”), which was last updated on January 2013, Your use of any services provided by GS1 (“Services”) is conditioned upon your acceptance of the terms of the Code.
GS1 may revise the Code at any time by updating this web-page and notifying you by posting a notice on the main page of (“Website”), by emailing the email address associated with your account, or otherwise. You should check the Website from time to time to review the Code because it is binding on you. Certain provisions of the Code may be superseded by expressly designated legal notices or terms located on particular pages of the Website. Your use of the Services after an update to the Code indicates that you accept the revised Code.

  1. Rules of Conduct

When using the Services, including while engaging or communicating with GS1 employees, staff, agents, or designees (“GS1 Representatives”), you agree to at all times to conduct yourself in a civilized and courteous manner.
Additionally, you agree not to:

  1. Engage or communicate with GS1 Representatives, other users, or any other party in the course of using the Services in a manner that is offensive, abusive, threatening, obscene, or indecent;
  2. Provide or distribute, false or misleading information to GS1 Representatives, other users, or any other party in the course of using the Services or through the Website;
  3. Post or transmit to or from the Website, any material which is technically harmful (including, without limitation, computer viruses, logic bombs, Trojan horses, worms, harmful components, corrupted data or other malicious software or harmful data);
  4. Use any spider, robot, other automatic device, or manual process to monitor or copy any information stored on the Website available through the Services or any personal information, including information that is subject to the Privacy Statement ( without GS1’s express written consent;
  5. Misuse, hack, vandalize, penetrate the security of, or hijack the Website or any aspect of the Service, attempt to do any of the foregoing, or aid any other person with any of the foregoing; or
  6. Contravene any applicable local or national laws.

You acknowledge that GS1 may investigate any breach of the Code and any violations of law and shall cooperate with law enforcement authorities in prosecuting users in this regard.

  1. Suspension and termination

GS1 will determine, in its sole discretion, whether there has been a breach of the Code. When a breach of the Code has occurred, GS1 may take such action as it deems appropriate, which may result in it taking all or any of the following actions:

  1. Issue a warning to you;
  2. Change or limit the way in which you may communicate with GS1 Representatives in a manner that is appropriate to your conduct, for example, GS1 may limit your communication with GS1 Representatives to only communication via regular mail and may not respond to vexatious or harassing emails or phone calls from users;
  3. Contact and inform all or any of GS1 trading partners of your repeated or flagrant breach of the Code and provide these trading partners with the details of said breach or breaches;
  4. Discontinue your subscription for the Services or temporarily suspend your right to use all or part of the Services;
  5. Bring legal proceedings against you for reimbursement of all costs on an indemnity basis (including, but not limited to, reasonable administrative and legal costs) resulting from the breach;
  6. Bring further legal action against you; and
  7. Contact law enforcement authorities and disclose such information as GS1 reasonably feels is necessary.

The responses described above are not limited, and GS1 may take any other action it reasonably deems appropriate.

  1. Law and jurisdiction

The Code and any dispute arising out of it will be governed by the laws of Ontario and Canada, without regard to its rules regarding conflict of laws. Any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with the Code or its formation (including non-contractual disputes or claims) shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Toronto, Ontario.
The parties acknowledge that they have required the Code and all related documents and websites to be prepared in the English language. Les parties reconnaissent avoir demandé que le présent contrat ainsi que tous les documents et les sites web qui s'y rattachent soient rédigés en langue anglaise.
