Driving eCommerce Opportunities and Sales

67 per cent
of consumers say the quality of a product image is very important in selecting and purchasing a product.* Are they looking
at yours?

With more Canadians shopping and browsing online than ever before, now is the time to make sure your products stand out. High-quality product images and data give your customers the same experience online that they would receive in-store, increasing confidence and driving online sales.

ECCnet Phase 2 – eCommerce is an industry-led initiative to ensure that your products have been professionally photographed and had their on-pack data captured.

GS1 Canada's ECCnet Phase 2 – eCommerce meets not only our needs, but the needs of the grocery industry as a whole. It's a major undertaking, but one worth investing in to deliver the right product, at the right price, at the right time."

- Grant Froese, Chief Operating Officer, Loblaw Companies Ltd.

The Vault, an ECCnet Service – eCommerce Content

ECCnet Phase 2 – eCommerce delivers optimized data and image bundles that can be certified by manufacturers and brand owners, reducing brand risk. Certifying content ensures that what customers see online is accurate and complete.

A new tool, called The Vault, an ECCnet Service – eCommerce Content, has been designed to help manufacturers view, download and certify the images and data captured throughout ECCnet Phase 2.

Manufacturers can certify their content at any time but retailers will have access to content five days after it enter The Vault – eCommerce, whether it is certified or not.

Manufacturers can also use The Vault – eCommerce to top up product data with additional information not found on-pack, including marketing romance copy.

  3. Images and data are validated: GS1 Canada validates the on-pack information.
  4. Certify your images and data: Manufacturers and brand owners will receive an invitation to subscribe to The Vault - eCommerce as soon as their products are certified. Manufacturers will have five days to certify their products before they are distributed to retailers.

  • Increased sales opportunities. When customers can see what your product looks like, they are more likely to buy.
  • Accurate information about the ingredients, nutrition information or use and care instructions for your product. Providing the information customers want makes them more likely to engage with products.
  • Submit your products once and they can be shared with all of your retail partners. There is no need to go through the same process for every single retailer you do business with.
  • Reduces brand and consumer risk by ensuring all information received by your customers has been certified by the brand owner.
  • Allows you to control your brand and message.
  • An improved shopping experience for your customers. High-quality images close some of the gap between online stores and their bricks-and-mortar counterparts.
  • Consistency. It does not matter where the products you stock come from, with standardized images, you can offer a consistent consumer experience across your entire range.
  • Validated product information on everything from product claims to nutrition information.
  • Reduces brand and consumer risk by ensuring all information received by your customers has been certified by the brand owner.

All manufacturers who currently sell, or intend to sell, goods in the identified product categories to grocery retailers in Canada will need to participate in the service.
