Product Recall – Healthcare is a web-based product recall and withdrawal communication service that optimizes the speed and accuracy of recall notifications. Being Recall Ready also provides manufacturers with certification that they are Recall Ready in the event that a recall notification is needed.

This service helps mitigate potential risks to your organization and harm to patients related to using a recalled pharmaceutical. It also improves the traceability of recalled pharmaceuticals.

Product Recall – Healthcare can be used for product recalls involving regulated healthcare products including over-the-counter medication and nutraceuticals.

This user-friendly, global standards-based recall communication service is the only one of its kind in Canada, designed by stakeholders within the pharmacy sector.

Benefits of Product Recall – Healthcare

National pilot studies were conducted with multiple stakeholders along the supply chain. The pilot demonstrated Product Recall – Healthcare’s significant value to manufacturers and distributors, as well as to retail and hospital pharmacies.

The pilot further demonstrated:

  • A 90 per cent increase in communication effectiveness, as a result of automatic tracking and reporting of recall receipts.
  • A reduction in the average cost to distribute a recall notice of $6,000 to $8,000.
  • An 83 per cent reduction in the time to create recall notices.
  • An 80 per cent reduction in the time to communicate recall notifications from manufacturer to distributor to pharmacy.

Steps to Getting Recall Ready:

  • Register two or more users in your organization:
    • an initiator, who instigates new recall notifications and
    • an approver, who reviews notifications for accuracy.
  • Complete at least one Mock Recall per year: Practice recalls in a simulated environment to help build the capabilities needed to execute real-life recalls quickly and accurately as well as to demonstrate to trading partners and government bodies that you are prepared in the event of a recall.
